Gabriel Kulp, Executive Director
Before founding ISL, Gabriel was a fellow at RAND working on hardware-enabled governance mechanisms for GPU export controls and on international verification of agreements. In conjunction with his work at ISL, he mentors researchers via MATS, Heron, Pivotal, and other programs. He holds a master’s degree in computer science.
Tom Gardiner, Staff Director
Tom supports the Board of Directors on Governance matters, provides management counsel to the Executive Director, and assists with running the Operations department.
After earning a BSc in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews, Tom joined the UK’s Royal Navy as a Warfare Officer. He earned a ‘warship driving license’ on two frigates, supported national tasking in the Control Room of an attack submarine, and managed a Rear Admiral’s diary. He now applies his “getting things done” skills to the world of AI Security.
When not working, he focuses on maintaining his fitness, expanding his Warhammer collection, and enjoys hiking and cooking for friends.
Paul Murley, Technical Director
Paul leads the development and infrastructure teams building solutions to secure high-stakes AI deployments. Previously, he served as a cyber warfare officer in the Air National Guard and worked as a software and security engineer in both the public and private sectors. He earned his Ph.D. in computer science, studying the security properties of the internet empirically and at scale. In his free time, he enjoys playing the French horn and taking orders from his two cats.
